Zalavíz Zrt. with innovative tools, real-time information service, without intervention.
Zalavíz Zrt. drinking water supply system, we introduced an innovative WaterScope IoT pressure and flow monitoring system that provides real-time information on the status of the network without intervention.WaterScope technology uses data to help optimize pressure, detect water losses and illegal water consumption, and increase operational efficiency. WaterScope technology uses data to help optimize pressure, detect water losses and illegal water consumption, and increase operational efficiency.
Object:
The aim of the project was to provide Zalavíz Zrt. with accurate and continuous information on the operation of the drinking water network without having to interfere with the existing pipe system. Monitoring and regulating pressure values, even broken down into pressure zones, makes it possible to reduce network load, increase supply security, and improve operational efficiency. Another important consideration was that the system should be able to quickly detect any irregularities, such as illegal water use or sudden pressure drops.
The challenge
- Previously, no up-to-date, real-time data on network conditions was available.
- Regional differences in pressure values and nighttime fluctuations were difficult to monitor.
- The operator was unable to effectively check the operation of the pressure regulating valves (PRVs).
- Illegal water use could only be detected retrospectively, after lengthy investigations.
Our solution
- Installation of the WaterScope IoT system with wireless data transmission (LoRa technology).
- We installed devices at various points in the water supply network that continuously collect and transmit pressure and flow data.
- The system allows alarms to be sent in the event of overpressure, pressure drops or fire hydrant activation.
- The data is also generated in the form of automatic daily, weekly and monthly reports in exportable formats (XLS, CSV).
- Users can easily view the measured data on mobile devices or tablets.
Installed devices:
- 5 SHM Hawle Smart Fire Hydrants
- 6 SPM Smart Pressure Monitoring Devices
- 1 SQM Smart Water Quantity Monitoring Device
The results
By monitoring the operation of the pressure regulating valves, the network pressure level (in this case 3.5–4 bar) can be optimized.
Nighttime pressure changes are easily identifiable—for example, fluctuations between 1 and 6 a.m. are caused by the automatic refilling of a water tower.
Smart Hydrant Pro is multifunctional: it not only measures pressure, but also warns of sudden pressure drops or fire hydrant openings.
Based on certain measured data, illegal water consumption was suspected, which was quickly reported by the system.
The system can be used to perform accurate DMA (district metered area) analyses, supporting leak detection and pressure management programs.
