Install a monitoring system to increase the efficiency of the municipal water supply network and reduce losses.
In 2020, TRV Zrt. installed an online water pressure and flow monitoring system to increase the efficiency of the municipal water supply network and reduce losses. Thanks to WaterScope IoT devices, the entire system has become more transparent and easier to control, with real-time data collection and remote monitoring.
Object:
The aim of the project was to provide TRV Zrt. with real-time data from key points in their water supply system, including water wells, water towers and the network. This allows for pressure optimization, reduced network load, improved supply security, and support for water loss reduction strategies.
The challenge
-
The operator did not have real-time data on
- the operation of water production wells,
- the fill level of the water tower,
- and the current pressure conditions in the network.
-
Efficient management of the water supply system was difficult:
- there was no accurate picture of the current status of the system,
- and it was not possible to make quick, informed decisions.
-
The operation of the system was not optimized:
- the wells operated in parallel, causing higher energy loads,
- network pressure was occasionally too high,
- and hidden leaks and losses were difficult to detect.
Our solution
-
Installation of the WaterScope IoT monitoring system:
- 2 SGU water well monitoring units,
- 2 Hawle Smart Fire Hydrant SHM smart fire hydrants for network pressure measurement,
- 1 SGU water tower monitoring system,
- 2 SPM pressure measuring devices.
-
Wireless data transmission with LoRa-WAN technology:
- reliable and cost-effective communication with the LoRIoT network server.
- Real-time data collection and visualization:
- continuous monitoring at key points,
- measurement results interpreted in context.
-
Alarms and reporting:
- warning signals based on threshold values,
- automatic daily/weekly/monthly reports with export option.
-
Complete DMA zone designation:
- water withdrawal, pressure and water tower data integrated into a single system.
The results
- The entire settlement area can now be monitored as a DMA zone.
- The operation of water production wells can be better scheduled, with optimized, alternating operation recommended instead of parallel operation.
- Network pressure can be optimized: values above 4 bar proved to be excessive in a small, flat area.
- The data highlighted seasonal increases in water use, for example due to irrigation during dry periods.
- The network pressure level can now be regulated thanks to continuous monitoring.
